PIN IT! Strawberry Shortcake Kabobs
Recently I was given the task of bringing a brunch dish to a baby shower. I coulda made something with bacon (yum) but I was trying to think outside of the box. So, I found this post on Pinterest: http://inyourbackpocket.blogspot.com/2012/05/strawberry-shortcake-kabobs.html
It looked simple enough, and even looked healthy!
So, being the person I am – I modified it a little. Instead of using shortcake, I used angelfood cake. And instead of putting whipped cream on the kabob (wouldn’t it melt off quick if you prepared it even a little ahead of time?), I put the whipped cream in a bowl on the side. Here was the end result:
It was crowd pleaser to say the least, everyone oOoh and aAah’d!
This is what you need, and I’ll even show you the budget!:
- 25 wood skewers ($3)
- 2 pounds of strawberries ($6)
- 1 angelfood cake ($4)
- 1 container of cool whip ($3)
- a large white box ($2 at Michaels)
- ribbon for decoration ($1)
My first step was putting the ribbon on the box to make it “baby shower” approved. Then I poked holes about 2 inches apart each on the top of the box. Cut your strawberries in to two, and cut cake into about 2 inch pieces. Next, put the strawberries and cake on the skewers and poke ‘em back in the box. And then you’re done! *One helpful hint, use one firm piece of strawberry on the bottom, or else it will all fall down.
Something great (and healthy) to bring to an office party, a family dinner or even a baby shower!
PINTEREST away!
